Gingered Squash  and Pear Soup

          AND THIS MONTH, WHY DON'T YOU...
         Carry a stash of candy corn for snacking--decadent and delicious!
         Try a sweet dash of cinnamon in your savory chili  *  Take a night
         off and serve cereal for dinner  *  Stock up on marshmallows --
         you can never have enough ( think hot chocolate)  *  Bake an apple
         pie to fill the house with that yummy smell  *  Brew ginger tea...
         it really works well on tummy aches.
 Take a few minutes to welcome fall with a bowl of this yummy recipe for butternut squash soup. 
Saute' I chopped onion and 1 Tbsp. grated ginger in a little oil in a large pot until onion is tender.  Add 1 large butternut squash, pealed, seeded and cut in chunks; 2 ripe pears, peeled cored and chopped; 4 cups chicken broth and salt and pepper to taste.  Bring to a boil; cover. and reduce heat and simmer 15 minutes until squash is tender.  Cool slightly. then puree' until smooth.  Garnish with sour cream and toasted pumpkin seeds.  Makes 8 cups.  Enjoy!

My Treasured Porch

Treasured Porch...

The sky has gotten dark and I hear the thunder and lightening.  We will go out to my treasured porch to watch and listen to the rain beat down on the two skylights.  Dark as the weather got here, the rain didn't make it to us but will soon.

9-12
The weather is cooling today and I'm very thankfull!  We're ready to clear out the sunporch and scrub the concrete floor and wash the windows.  Then, we can set up the porch and start decorating for fall!
August through December truly warms the heart.  So much to be thankful for.  I've waited four months to work on the sunporch and I'm loving every minute of it. 

The News Report:  103 days til Christmas!  WOW!!! Hard to believe!

We do have my favorite slender faux fur tree on the sunporch.  Family always asks why I have a Christmas tree on the porch.

Well, it's pretty and has clear lights all over it.

I turned the lights on just for you!

It looks really pretty lit up on summer evenings

and gets a bit of decorating come Christmas time.

Beautiful Friday 13th...

 

Just woke up from our afternoon nap.  We worked this morning on the sunporch.

It's taking shape really well and it's late afternoon now

but I'll post results later.

 

Holiday Decorateing 12 Months of the Year

Decorate 12 months of the year...

Decorating the outside of your home isn't just for Christmas.  Many people choose to decorate both inside and outside of their homes 12 months of the year.  Decorating your sunporch during fall months can be both fun and  relatively inexpensive.  Because there are plenty of great things about that particular time of year, there are also many different ways that you can approach the task.  Here are some simple ways that you could decorate your sunporch in the fall.

Any size pumpkins are associated with the fall harvest and Halloween, and for some, even Thanksgiving.

 

Artificial leaves in different colors brighten up your sunporch.

Place a rake next to these leaves to add to the decoration.

 

Orange lights hanging around your sunporch give you

a nice fall & Halloween theme to your porch.

 

With September here, you will find more than enough options

to choose from.  Use a fall doormat on your porch

Decorating Windows With Style and Decorative Flair

Decorating Double Windows....

Just came in from cleaning a very dusty double window that's in the 

dining room opening up in to the sunporch.  I can see I'm in for continual

cleaning on sunporch, knew it was  dusty but not this bad.

  We used same cafe' curtains on both windows,

of tan and orange...only the bottoms from the picture below,

bought three years ago.  Walmart had them then and I think J.C. Penny has them now. 

The bottom panels have a wide straight band across their hemline of the dark rust.

Seems the were $20 for one pair.

Autumn Bliss

Autumn Bliss...

 

Autumn Bliss at Seasons On the Sunporch...

 

Somewhere between the buzz of Indian Summer locusts

and  the deafening silence of new fallen snow

is a fleeting, exhilarating bliss known as Autumn.

It arrives in radiant splendor,

summoning our primal urges to feather our nests. 

The aroma   of coffee, tea and soups are more enticing

and we find a hundred ways to savour an apple.

Cords of seasoned hickory are stacked

outside in anticipation of a roaring hearth

and we greet the longer nights with cozy bedclothes.

We refresh our sweater supply,

and stock up on candles

sensing the dramatic excitement that rivals

the energy of those scurrying bushy tails.

 

Stroll through these pages 

as though immersed in

Kentucky woods come September!

Progressing Sunporch

Similar to our sunporch..

This is not our sunporch, can't show you ours yet!  Ours has a lot of boxes stored from our move-in, in June.  We don't have the dark woodwork nor floor covering.  Otherwise our sunporch is about the same.  We love all the outdoor view.  White sheers pulled back at the windows will be beautiful.  We started out making ours very comfortable until no storage for the last load of boxes.  Now, we have to find a place for them.  We got a lot done yesterday and are happy with our progress.  Our rose color sofa & chair, electric fireplace and my lovely floral print chair (thrifty find) are already there.  Can't wait till we get finished!  Our biggest hold-up is the fact that I cannot lift.  That leaves everything to my husband, Ed who has weak legs and is scheduled for physical therapy.  Maybe we'll call on our granddaughter, Kayla to help.  I'm anxious to decorate for fall.

Yesterday we prepared a space for the extra boxes.  A great achievement!

Due to having our shih tzu the sunporch was Chad's home for three months after we moved in.  Now we let him in the house and we can set up the sunporch for leisure, viewing the weather, and eating meals there.  It's a wonderful place to listen to the rain and watch the birds fly about.  We have a couple of cardinal families we feed.  We're finally ready to work out there and finish decorating for fall.  Hope to have pictures for you soon!
